Providing for Needs, Sharing the Good News
New LMS Compassion Center Opens in Hickory, MD
July 19, 2015 — The 10th LMS Compassion Center has opened, this one in Hickory (Bel Air), MD at 2500 Conowingo Road, 21015. The newest center is open Tuesday thru Saturday, 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM. Food and clothing distribution for folks in need is on Saturdays at 10:15 AM; a chapel service follows at 10:45.
Join us for the Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, September 19th starting at 10:00 AM. There will be door prizes every hour, light refreshments and giveaways for the kids. In addition, all items will be half-off all week (Sat., Sept. 19th — Sat., Sept. 26th).
Please stop in when you’re in the area. Donations of clothing, furniture, housewares, etc. in good usable condition are always welcome, and tax receipts will be provided. Donations of non-perishable food items are always needed and appreciated. While you’re here, browse the thrift center — funds raised help defray the costs of operating the center.
LMS Compassion Centers
This is the call the Lutheran Mission Society heard over 100 years ago, and the call that still drives LMS ministries today — ministering to the needs of the body with food, clothing and shelter; ministering to the needs of the soul with the Good News of Jesus.
LMS Compassion Centers exist for this purpose. There are currently nine Compassion Centers in Maryland and York, PA where over 500 people come daily for help with the physical necessities of life and for the nourishment of spirit that only Jesus can give.
John 10:10b-11 (NRSV) [Jesus said] “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
LMS Vision Statement
We will reach out, together with members of the body of Christ, to bring wholeness to people whose lives we touch, striving to meet the needs of an ever-changing world with the unchanging message of God’s love.
