Providing for Needs, Sharing the Good News

Lutheran Mission Society Partners with Breath of God Lutheran Church to Help Families Victimized by Fire . . .

The Lutheran Mission Society is working with the Breath of God Lutheran Church in southeast Baltimore to help five families whose homes on the 3400 block of Mt. Pleasant Avenue in Highlandtown burned during the recent blizzard. The Mission Society is helping to provide clothing (through the Fells Point and Essex Compassion Centers) and furniture for the families, in cooperation with Breath of God and other local churches.

Here is a link to the story presented by WBAL TV.

Current Needs

  • If you have furniture to donate for the families, we currently need: beds (mattresses, frames, box springs) and sofas. Please call 410-636-0123 or email fire@lutheranmissionsociety.org to arrange a truck pick-up. (Please note: Do not drop off furniture designated for fire victims to a Compassion Center — please contact us for a pick-up. Thanks.)

  • Financial contributions to be used to help with families’ needs may be made through the Breath of God webpage.

Thank you for your support!

 LMS Compassion Centers

Center4webThe mission field is not all overseas. It is also right here, in our own neighborhoods, where people are struggling and hurting and hungering for the wholeness Jesus brings.

This is the call the Lutheran Mission Society heard over 100 years ago, and the call that still drives LMS ministries today — ministering to the needs of the body with food, clothing and shelter; ministering to the needs of the soul with the Good News of Jesus.

LMS Compassion Centers exist for this purpose. There are currently ten Compassion Centers in Maryland and York, PA where over 500 people come daily for help with the physical necessities of life and for the nourishment of spirit that only Jesus can give.

John 3:16: (NRSV) For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

John 10:10b-11 (NRSV) [Jesus said] “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

 LMS Vision Statement

We will reach out, together with members of the body of Christ, to bring wholeness to people whose lives we touch, striving to meet the needs of an ever-changing world with the unchanging message of God’s love.
